Clearing TEAMS cache

Overview

Users may experience issues with the Microsoft Teams application, including devices (headsets, cameras, microphones) not functioning correctly. Resetting Teams can resolve these issues by clearing the application cache and restoring default settings.


Applies To

  • Microsoft Teams (Desktop App)
  • Windows 10 and Windows 11
  • macOS

Symptoms

  • Audio or video devices not detected
  • Microphone or camera not working in Teams
  • Teams app freezing or not responding
  • General performance issues within Teams

Resolution

For Windows

  1. Click the Start / Windows button (bottom-left corner)
  2. Open Settings
  3. Select Apps
  4. Select Installed Apps
  5. Scroll down and select Microsoft Teams
  6. Click Advanced Options from the three dots on the right side
  7. Scroll down and click Reset Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

For macOS

  1. Completely quit Microsoft Teams
    • Right-click the Teams icon in the Dock and select Quit, or press Command + Q
  2. Open Finder
  3. Click Go in the top menu, then select Go to Folder
  4. Enter the following path:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft
  5. Locate and delete the Teams folder
  6. Empty the Trash
  7. Reopen Microsoft Teams and sign back in

Important Notes

  • Resetting Teams will clear cached data
  • Users will need to sign back into the application
  • This does not uninstall Teams or remove user data from the cloud

When to Use This Fix

Use this procedure when standard troubleshooting steps (restart, sign out/in) do not resolve the issue.
