Windows 11 Upgrade Guide for DSU Faculty and Staff
Overview
Windows 11 is now available for upgrade on university-issued devices. After thorough testing, the IT team has confirmed compatibility with most campus applications and systems.
Note: The upgrade is optional. You may continue using Windows 10 at this time.
Before You Begin
To ensure a smooth upgrade experience, please review the following recommendations:
- Back up critical files to OneDrive or another secure location
- Connect to a wired network (if available) for faster, more stable download speeds
- Plan for downtime — the upgrade may take some time and will temporarily interrupt device use
- Schedule wisely — consider running the upgrade after hours or when you are away from your computer
How to Upgrade to Windows 11
- Click the Windows Search Bar
- Type Check for Updates and press Enter
- In the Windows Update window, select Download and Install Windows 11
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation
What to Expect
- Your device will restart multiple times during the installation
- The process may take anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour depending on your device and connection
- Most applications and settings will remain intact
