How to Connect to a Network Share on a Mac (Map Drives)
1. Connect to VPN First (Off‑Campus Only)
If you are off‑campus (remote or at home), you must connect to GlobalProtect VPN before accessing network drives.
If you are on campus and connected to DeSales Wi‑Fi, skip to Set Up Network Drive Connection.
Install GlobalProtect (if needed):
Download and install the GlobalProtect VPN client. Once installed, you’ll see its icon in the menu bar.
To connect:
- Click the GlobalProtect icon.
- Select Connect.
- Enter your DeSales login credentials:
- Username: last name + first initial
- Password: your network/email password
- Once connected, continue below.
2. Set Up Network Drive Connection
Step 1: Open the Server Connection Window
- Open Finder.
- In the top menu bar, click Go.
- Select Connect to Server… at the bottom of the menu.
Step 2: Enter the Server Path
A dialog box will appear asking for a server address.
To map your P: drive, use this format:
smb://cvfs08/home/lastnamefirstinitial
Replace lastnamefirstinitial with your actual username.
Then click Connect.
Step 3: Enter Your Credentials
A login window will appear.
- Make sure the username is correct (lastnamefirstinitial).
- Enter your network/email password.
- Optional: Check Remember this password in my keychain so you don’t have to re‑enter it every time.
Once authenticated, the drive will mount on your desktop.
