Important to Note
Issue: TEAMS not recognizing you as host when signing in from home computer
The issue is the your home computer's Microsoft TEAMS app is likely automatically signing you in with a personal Microsoft Account (or an old cached account) instead of your official DeSales University credentials. Even though you logged into Brightspace using your DeSales address, when Brightspace launched the Teams app, the app itself used whatever account was already active or cached on your home desktop.
Because it didn't recognize you as the DeSales organizer, it treated you as a guest or standard member, stripping away your hosting and recording privileges.
Here is how you can completely fix this and seamlessly use Teams for your student conferences from home.
Step 1: Sign Out of Your Personal Account in Teams
Before clicking any links in Brightspace, you need to fix the account active in the desktop app.
- Open the Microsoft Teams application on your home computer.
- Click on your profile picture or initials in the top right corner.
Step 2: Sign In with your DeSales Credentials
- Once signed out, Teams will prompt you to pick an account or sign in.
- Enter your DeSales University email address and password.
- If prompted by Windows/Mac to "Allow my organization to manage my device" or "Stay signed in to all your apps," check the box and click Yes/OK. This ensures your computer remembers your professor credentials.
Step 3: Check Your Default Browser (Alternative Fix)
If you prefer not to use the desktop app, or if it keeps defaulting to your personal email, you can bypass the app entirely:
- When you click the Teams meeting link in Brightspace, your browser will prompt you with a pop-up asking to open the Teams app.
- Click Cancel on that pop-up.
- Select the option on the webpage that says "Continue on this browser".
- Ensure your browser is logged into your DeSales Microsoft 365 account.
